Type Tips Postcards

Print, Packaging, Typography

My research topic is on vernacular typography – more specifically, seeking to find the beauty in the most gaudiest/ugliest of design.

My approach is using ugliness to make it visually interesting – but not necessarily “beautiful”. I would then take these principles and apply them to a controversial subject matter like the Fat Acceptance movement. I seek to try to make something as hideous (by society’s standards) like Fat Acceptance, more beautiful – or at least humanizing.

I was fortunate enough to stumble upon two articles that have polarizing views of the fat acceptance movement and summarized and contrasted these two articles using expressive typography. You can read the two articles here (an anti-Fat Acceptance/Fat Acceptance critical article) and here (a response to the anti-Fat Acceptance/pro-Fat Acceptance.
